What it is

Ondansetron is a prescription medication that blocks serotonin receptors involved in nausea and vomiting. It’s widely used in hospitals, emergency rooms, and urgent care.

Why it’s used in IV therapy

Added to hangover, food-poisoning, and stomach-bug drips to stop nausea quickly.

What the evidence says

Ondansetron is an established, effective anti-nausea drug. When people feel dramatically better after a “hangover IV,” this ingredient often deserves much of the credit.

Side effects and cautions

Headache and constipation are common. It can affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation), so clinicians should ask about heart conditions and other medications first. Because it’s a prescription drug, it should only be added after a clinician reviews your history.
